Ash looks to tighten back-line

Dorchester Town manager Ashley Vickers could add another defender to his ranks by the end of the week.

Having watched the Magpies ship 11 goals in six games this season, the former centre-half is keen to tighten up at the back.

However, in order to do so, the county town chief must lose one member of his current squad.

Vickers remained tight-lipped on the identity of his target, saying: “We might be signing another lad this week but it all depends on whether we can move someone the other way.

“The player we are looking to bring in is a defender but unfortunately I can’t say much more than that.

“We need to balance the squad and we need to balance the books at the same time.”

Yesterday, the transfer window shut for all Premier League, Football League and Blue Square Bet Premier clubs.

Unaffected by the closure, Vickers is now looking to secure two new additions for his Blue Square Bet South outfit – the other being an unnamed striker from the top tier of non-League football.

Of the mystery forward, who Vickers has been chasing for almost a week, the boss added: “We will continue to pursue that.”
