Forbes hailed after Tatnam show

Dorset Echoby Terry Spracklen

Ivan Forbes earned manager Shaun Brooks' praise after the Magpies earned a 2-0 victory at Tatnam Farm last night.

Forbes opened the scoring two minutes after the break to notch his third goal in consecutive matches and then went on to win a late penalty which enabled Ryan Moss to open his account for the season.

Brooks said: "We put Ivan in to play off the front players. We wanted to get him on the ball as much as possible with his speed and ability.

"If we get him up at the centre backs, he's going to cause some problems. It was a position we wanted to look at Ivan in and it worked out okay.

"He can get more involved in the game in the middle and he's got the speed and the legs to get beyond people as well so we'll look at it again.

"He's unstoppable and unplayable at times. Every now and again, he's got to slow himself down and his final ball has got to be of a little better quality but he's come back pre-season in fantastic shape and he's on fire at the moment."

Brooks again employed two different sides in each half and was also very impressed with the efforts of the younger players during the first half.

He added: "It was nice to get a couple of goals and another clean sheet and there were two excellent perfor-mances but you know the younger side in the first half were fantastic and played some super football.

"The only thing missing was probably a couple of goals. I imagine the average age of the side in the first half was 20-21 so it wouldn't be strong enough to compete in our league but we've got some good young players trying to play the game the right way so I think it bodes well for the next two or three years at the club. In the second half, the more experienced team moved the ball around really well.

"Their attitude towards the game was really great and Ivan at the moment looks quicker than last year."

There were two new faces in the squad - Indy Aujla, a former Bradford City, Chester City and Guiseley right back who has just returned from India and Leon Osei, a pacy front player who spent part of last season at Stevenage Borough.

Meanwhile the only player to complete 90 minutes was Hamworthy keeper Nick Hutchings while midfielder Jamie Gleeson was sidelined with a knee-injury.
