Solid start

Dorchester boss Shaun Brooks was pleased to see his side begin their
pre-season campaign with a 3-0 win at Ringwood last night but will
give those on trial a little more time to impress.
The Blue Square South side fielded two complete teams, playing
45 minutes each at the Canotec Stadium, and scored through new signing
Jamie Mudge, Ivan Forbes and Darren Watts.
Kevin Hill, Ronayne Benjamin Marsh-Brown and Nick Critten-den also
made their first appearances in a Magpies' shirt while keepers Nick
Hutchings and Ryan Harrison, midfielder Bill Puckett, ex-Hamworthy
defender Kevin Gill and young forward Taylor Morgan were all on
trial.
Brooks though will wait to make a decision on those hoping to win
a contract with the county town outfit.
He said: "It was always going to be difficult for the keepers because
with respect to Ringwood, they've not really tested either Nick
Hutchings or Ryan Harrison.
"We've seen Nick over the last week or so in training and we've
got another keeper coming down to a practice game at Yeovil today
so we'll look at three or four keepers this week.
"But it was a difficult match to judge them, as they didn't have
an awful lot to do.
"Bill Puckett's just come back from the USA and has been training
with us for a week. He's a clever footballer and a young boy, about
19-years-old, who was with Bournemouth as a kid.
"Kevin Gill is very robust and aggressive and Taylor Morgan was
with English Colleges and is just 17-years-old, he won't be ready
for what we need at the moment but he will be one to monitor.
"It was a good start for us. We fielded two teams but I think in
both halves, if anything, we set off at too quick a tempo. When
the tempo died down and we passed the ball a little bit better we
created quite a few chances, but it is early days.
"The enthusiasm among the group is fantastic. I thought they worked
as hard as they can work for the 45 minutes and we've come through
injury free."
The deadlock was broken on 21 minutes when Marsh-Brown sent a delightful
40-yard cross into the path of Mudge who steered the ball past home
keeper Dave Rhodes.
Crittenden and Puckett both sent shots over while Ryan Moss had
two efforts deflected wide and Mudge had a shot parried to safety
by Rhodes.
But it was the more youthful second half side who proved sharpest
in front of goal with Forbes and Watts scoring with 20 and 25-yard
strikes respectively.
Harrison, formerly with Llanelli, took over in goal from Hutchings
but like his predecessor, found himself under-worked.
