Stuart joined the Magpies in August 2010 following an extensive and successful pre-season in which he scored five goals.

Stuart began his career with Luton Town as a youth player, going on to make 146 Football League appearances for the club. He then spent time on loan at Oxford United and Rushen & Diamonds before being released by the Hatters at the end of the 2001-02 season.

Following two years at Boston United, he spent time in Finland before returning to England to have spells with Dagenham & Redbridge, Crawley Town, Weymouth, Bath City and Newport County.

Stuart was released by the club in October 2010, and he joined Poole Town shortly after.
