Young Magpies lose to more experienced Islanders

by James Tizzard

Trevor Senior and Phil Basford's Magpies under-18 side came unstuck on a wet and windy afternoon at Portland's Grove Corner on Saturday.

Luke Brurn, Santhez Baker and Steve Lambert gave the Islanders' a 3-0 lead before Sam Thomas grabbed a late consolation goal for the Magpies in their latest pre-season friendly.

Darren Watts, who has stepped up from last season's under-18 squad to join Shaun Brooks' full-time first team, was included in the Magpies line-up, whilst Portland had ex-Terra Scott Dennis and former Dorchester players Martin Hillier and Michael Walker in their side.

» The Magpies' under-18 side will play their first home friendly of their pre-season campaign this evening when they entertain AFC Bournemouth at the Thomas Hardye School in Dorchester, kick-off 6.30pm.

Dorchester U18 (from): Bickerstaff, Coward, Critchel, Read, Dale, Hill, Clarke, Jones, Kellaway, Rice, Musumeci, Chance, Mitchem, Hopkins, Symes, Johnson, Holden, Thomas, Toogood.
