Young Magpies finish friendlies
with a win
by
James Tizzard
Trevor Senior and Phil Basford's under-18 side finished off their
pre-season campaign with a well-deserved 2-0 victory at Sturminster
Newton Reserves last night.
Luke Braund, making his first appearance in a Magpies' shirt, opened
the scoring after 25 minutes when he latched on to a header from
Darren Watts on the edge of the area and the striker gave goalkeeper
Richard Young no chance.
Full-back Alan Hill doubled the Magpies' advantage a minute into
the second half, but their hosts were unlucky not to pull a goal
back ten minutes from time when James Page's shot hit the post and
Mike Bud's follow-up was cleared off the line with Dorchester keeper
Regan Coward stranded.
The Magpies will open their South-West Counties Youth League season
this Saturday when they entertain Stroud at the Avenue Stadium,
kick-off 2.00pm.
