Dorch 'outclassed' in Hampshire tie
by
Howard Milton
The young Magpies were "outclassed" in their Section
B match in Hampshire.
Their defeat left general manager Phil Basford
questioning matters in the league.
"It does make you wonder what is happening," he said. "Aldershot
had not won any of their group matches before Saturday, so I quite
fancied our chances.
"Our results had been much the same, either 1-0 or 2-1, but
the trouble is you never know who you are going to play in this
league, whether they are on contract or whatever."
The match could have been much different had Lloyd Mitchem
scored instead of hitting the post when the scoreline was 0-0.
Basford said: "We were outclassed, it was as simple as that.
All credit to the lads because they stuck at it and did not argue
among themselves. We kept playing and by the end most of the team
were under-17s."
The contest proved a baptism of fire for the Magpies' debut-making
keeper Sam Filkin. However, he did well to keep the scoreline down.
Aldershot took the lead in the tenth minute when Dan Simmonds
fired in from the edge of the area. A second goal followed six minutes
later when Lewis Phillips scored from close range.
Dorchester tried to get into the game but did not really
test Aaron Bufton in the Shots' goal. Between the 31st and 35th
minutes, the hosts added three more goals - through Peter Hibbert,
Dan Mouradian and Simmonds.
Richard Read reduced the deficit before a brace apiece from
Ekow Elliott and Mouradian, four goals from Dan Read and one from
Steve White inflicted further misery on the visitors.
Dorchester will look to recover when they host Forest Green
Rovers at the Recreation Ground, Weymouth Avenue, on Saturday.
