Dorch reserves 'to face pro sides'
by

Dorchester Town Reserves have pulled out of the Dorset Premier League.
Magpies' director of football Shaun Brooks informed
second-string boss Kevin Hillier of the decision during the middle
of last week.
Brooks said: "We pulled them out because we would like to
get them a bit closer to where we are with the first team. What
I want to do is install closer links between the first team, reserves
and youths because of the nature of Blue Square South and the fact
the majority of the (first-team) squad will be training full-time.
"What we will do is arrange fixtures every two or three weeks
against, we hope, professional sides to make sure those who are
not playing in the first team can get their game time and match
practice at a slightly higher level."
The Magpies' Reserves had been members of the Dorset Premier since
1960-1 with the exception of one season and were crowned league
champions twice and runners-up three times.
Hillier said: "The last time I spoke with Shaun he seemed
pretty confident something would crop up (for me) so I will keep
my options open (at the club) for the moment.
"I am waiting to see what happens but I will not be at Dorchester
if there is no reserve team. Something has always cropped up but
if it does not I will take a break from the game.
"It is shame because three of the reserve team were going
on contracts and it has been snatched away on a phone call."
