Reserves' axing 'is good for club'

Dorchester Town under-18s' general manager Phil Basford believes
the decision to axe the club's reserve team has improved matters
at the county-town outfit.
Magpies' director of football Shaun Brooks has
stated a wish to fully integrate the youth section of more than
400 children into the main set-up. And the move has created a straightforward
link between the youth team and seniors for the first time.
Basford said: "The whole set-up at the club has changed for
the better and that is not taking away anything from the board of
directors. I asked for 20 footballs this season and they were all
pumped up ready for our first training session last week.
"Even through (director) Shaun Hearn did a tremendous amount
of work to help me get the team off the ground last year, all the
equipment we had was left from my involvement with the lower age
groups."
Basford has backed the signings of youngsters Jamie Cumming, Mitchell
Nicholson and Tom Mitchell.
He said: "Shaun Brooks is signing young players with a view
of bringing them along in the under-18s if they are not quite ready
for the first-team squad. I hope lads who come in will help bring
along the better players who are already are in the youth squad.
Now there is a direct link it will enable those lads who want to
reach the first team to go for it.
"Dorchester Town is becoming the place of lads to come and
I hope that message gets around the whole of the county."
