Magpies hope for more Albion talent

Western Gazetteby Howard Milton

Shaun Brooks may bolster his Dorchester Town squad with further players from Coca-Cola League One club Brighton & Hove Albion after Seagulls' loanee Wes Fogden agreed to stay at the Avenue Stadium for another month.

Town's director of football has been so impressed by the 19-year-old midfielder he is in further negotiations with the East Sussex club about adding one of Fogden's team-mates.

"Wes has set a benchmark for other players and proved you do not have to be a great size to be competitive," said Brooks. "The fact he wanted to work with us for another month is a real bonus.

"The boys from Brighton are so well coached, you know what you are going to get and that is not always the case with other clubs. Teams in the Football League are not going to give you their 18-20-year-old players but we have good relations with Brighton.

"Having spoken to (Albion's director of youth football) Martin Hinshelwood, there are one or two we are looking at so there is a possibility of a (Brighton) player coming in the not too distant future."

Brooks hopes to have at least one new face in his squad for Saturday's Blue Square South home game with Welling United.

"All being well if we can get an agreement on one or two deals, it would be nice," he said. "I think we need to add right through the middle of the team."

New players could mean the exit door for more of the Magpies' first-team squad - but not Charlie Henry, despite interest from Eastleigh and Havant & Waterlooville.

Brooks said: "He is a terrific talent and I do not want our best players to leave the football club. However, I had been disappointed with him over the last weeks because of his performances.

"I did not feel he was doing enough. He has fantastic ability but had to put more work into the defensive side of his game and become more of a team player.

"I sat down with him last week and did some work and I thought his performance at Newport County was one of his best of the season. But all the players have to understand that the team comes before anything else."

Brighton visit the Avenue Stadium for a friendly on 20 November (7.30pm).
