Sea change for Magpies double act
by Ky Capel
Toni Musumeci capped his last game in a Magpies' shirt with a superb goal to help his side pick up an impressive draw against high-flying Filton College in Group B of the South West Counties League Cup.
Musumeci and skipper Sam Buckler, who was unavailable for the clash, are both leaving the Division Two outfit to join the Royal Navy.
Dorchester's general manager Phil Basford said: "Both Toni and Sam have been great servants to the club.
"I have coached Toni since under-8s so I have been with him for 10 years now, he's a very gifted player who can be frustrating at times but has a touch of magic. Sam has been with us for four years and has hardly ever missed training.
"I'm sure the Royal Navy will help improve them as people and hopefully they will play for the Navy's football team. But as they leave it marks a new era with the likes of Matt Johnson and Jamie Hopkins getting their chance."
The Magpies got off to a great start when former Yeovil Town youth player Jamie Morgan put them one up inside the first minute. Musumeci then added a second for the county town outfit with a delightful 30-yard chip four minutes later.
However, the visitors managed to pull themselves level by half time before Dan Jones restored the home side's lead 15 minutes into the second half before Musumeci, Morgan and Craig Kellaway had chances to wrap the game up.
Those missed opportunities were punished when Filton levelled again just a minute before the final whistle. The young Magpies lie fifth in their group with four points from three games.
Dorchester are holding trials on Thursday for players from school
years 10 to 12. The trials will take place at the club's training
pitch at the TA Centre, Poundbury Road, Dorchester (6.45pm). To
