Evans' frustration as an understudy

Dorchester Town goalkeeper Simon Evans admits he is frustrated at
being forced to understudy on-loan keeper Darren Behcet.
The 19-year-old featured in the first three games of the season
but has fallen out of favour with director of football Shaun Brooks
since Behcet's arrival from Yeovil Town.
Evans got his chance in both FA Cup Second Qualifying Round games
with Paulton Rovers because the Glovers did not want their keeper
cup-tied.
"It is a frustrating time but then I understand that Darren
is a very good goalkeeper," said Evans. "When you are
handed a goalkeeper like that - he has come from West Ham and gone
to Yeovil - you cannot turn him down.
"As for myself, I started out at 14 years of age (at Andover),
went to Weymouth when I was 16 and have been renting and living
by myself since then. That has helped me grow up and be a better
character.
"I just want to do well. There is nothing better than playing
football and having a full-time contract at a club that can be so
passionate about football is a fantastic thing.
"The coaching is decent. We have not got a goalkeeping coach
yet but we are working on it. If I stay at Dorchester for the rest
of my life I do not mind because it is such a brilliant club.
"But, obviously my aim is to move on because every player
wants to play at the highest level they can get to. I am only 19
still, so I have got, like the other lads, a long time to go in
my career bar injuries."
Evans stressed, however, that he was just pleased to be involved
again in the cup games - despite the results.
He said: "Obviously they have brought me in for Bechet. But
I put my all into every single game and if it does not come off
for me then it does not come off.
"As long as the gaffer knows I have put everything into it
that is all that matters - I just want to keep improving."
Evans admits Dorchester need more character if they are to overcome
their poor start to the campaign.
"It is very disappointing because obviously we are a full-time
outfit," he said. "It is not that we are struggling -
we need someone to pull their finger out and show a bit of character.
"People say about us being full-time but it is not always
the thing that wins you games.
"The full-time is a bonus and I think by the end of the season
it will all come together because we have got a decent, young team.
"They are all talented and all good on the ball. Unfortunately
on Monday night (at Paulton) I thought we were outplayed. They were
a good side - let us not underestimate them."
