Players' desire is open to question - Basford
by
Howard Milton
Town general manager Phil Basford felt his side flattered to deceive
at the Division Two leaders on Saturday.
Dorch disappointed in the first half but improved after the break.
However, it was not enough as the hosts grabbed a deserved winner
late on.
Basford said: "It was a poor first half and not inspirational.
The players got a good talking-to at half-time and then did a lot
better. But Hamworthy deserved to win because they were up for it
more.
"It is almost a case of taking one step back having gone two
forward. The week before we totally dominated and the game before
that, at Eastleigh, was probably our best performance of the season.
"We have players of decent ability but sometimes we question
whether they are there to go through the motions or want to make
a career and a bit of money out of football. They do it on the training
ground but when you get to Saturday they do not seem up for it.
As Sam Butler and Toni Muscmeci are going into the Navy in November,
we are looking for new players."
Anyone interested in joining the side - who host Richard Huish
College, Taunton, on Saturday at Sandringham Sports Centre, Dorchester
(11am) - can telephone Basford on 07966 597149 or manager Trevor
Senior on 07771 903795.
Basford and Senior watched the Dorset Youth League Under-15s' Division
One game on Sunday between Dorchester Magpies and Dorchester Raiders
which went the way of the latter 2-0.
Two of Senior's squad - Jamie Symes and Jamie Hopkins - played.
Hopkins scored twice and Symes, playing for the Magpies, was knocked
unconscious in a battle for the ball.
Basford said: "Trevor and I were impressed with the standard
of the passing and the movement. They are two good teams."
