Big Avenue crowd can lift the Magpies
by
Ky Capel
Dorchester Town director of football Shaun Brooks is hopeful of
a good atmosphere inside the Avenue Stadium tomorrow (3pm) as the
Magpies aim to reach a 1,000 strong crowd when they host Bromley.
Owner Eddie Mitchell has promised to refund all tickets bought
on the day should the magic number be reached. And after plenty
of noise from the Avenue faithful in the Magpies' last game, a 3-2
win over Eastleigh in the Setanta Shield, Brooks is looking forward
to tomorrow's clash.
He said: "Hopefully there will be plenty of people at the
game, because if there is the atmosphere will be fantastic.
"During the Eastleigh game the fans were excellent, mainly
because we gave them something to shout about. As long as we put
the same effort into the Bromley game as we did against Eastleigh
then I know the supporters will get behind us."
Bromley will be somewhat of an unknown quantity for Dorchester
after the Ravens were promoted from the Isthmian Premier last season
courtesy of the play-offs.
The London outfit though, have made an impressive start to their
Blue Square South campaign, the Ravens' highest league status in
their 115-year history, and lie nine places above Dorchester.
Brooks is wary of their potential but remains confident in his
team. He added: "Bromley have made a good start to the season
and they will be full of confidence. They are a good footballing
side and, as with every team, we have had them watched.
"But it's all about us, if we set about the game in the right
way then we have the ability to win."
The Magpies go into the fixture having not played for 10 days since
beating the Spitfires, and Brooks has no fresh injury worries.
The county town boss comm-ented: "James Rowe and Terry Parker
are back in non-contact training and should be ready in a couple
of weeks. Elliot Bent and Mark Jermyn are doing light training again
while Ryan Hill is very close to returning.
"Ryan completed 90 minutes again in a friendly against Torquay
on Tuesday, we lost 2-0 but it was a good chance to look at the
younger members of the squad and those who haven't played much this
season."
Brooks' search for a new striker ahead of tomorrow's game looks
to have hit a dead end.
He said: "I doubt we will have anyone in for Saturday's game.
We have spoke to around half a dozen players but for one reason
or another, mainly money, things haven't worked out.
"We are still looking, we know what we are after, and we will
get the right person for this football club."
