On the rocks

Magpies' director of football Shaun Brooks was left to rue a late
equaliser that denied his side all three points against Bognor Regis
Town at the Avenue Stadium last night.
The draw sees Dorchester halt a run of four straight defeats in
Blue Square South, but the county town boss was frustrated in his
side's failure to see out the game.
He said: "I'm disappointed, again like Saturday against Bromley
we have shown an inability to see games through. We created good
chances and had we scored them we would have gone on to win the
game.
"I was also disappointed with our inability to pass the ball
correctly, we also lost our shape towards the end which didn't help.
"I'm pleased that we have stopped the run of defeats but disappointed
to have dropped two points."
Jones Awuah gave Dorchester the lead with a lobbed effort midway
through the second half, but former Terra Luke Nightingale tapped
home an 85th minute leveller for the Rocks thanks to some poor marking
from a set-piece.
Bognor though, started the game brightly and hit the woodwork
twice in the opening 10 minutes.
Brooks added: "We were lucky early on. The goal we gave away
was a cheap free-kick, but having said that you have to accept the
decision and defend correctly, which we failed to do.
"Jones got his fifth goal of the season and has scored three
in his last three matches so he's on a good run at the moment and
he deserves it. He works hard in games and he took his chance well
tonight. I'm sure he will hit well into double figures this season,
he's always the last player to come in from the training field.
"Wes Fogden and Jamie Gleeson were two of our best performers,
they set the tempo with their work-rate and tackling."
Brooks went into battle last night without his right-hand man.
Assistant boss Steve Johnson resigned from his post citing work
commitments as the reason for his departure. Brian Benjafield, who
was part of the coaching staff during Mark Morris' tenure, will
be helping the club's director of football on a temporary basis.
Brooks said: "Steve was finding it hard given his work duties
and decided he couldn't contribute as much as he would have liked.
I wish him all the best and would like to thank him for all the
work he has done for the club.
"Brian is well connected to the club, he's got a good character
with a good knowledge of the game. He doesn't want a long-term commitment
so we will be looking to get someone in."
