Holmes keen on return to Avenue

Dorchester Town legend Matt Holmes wants to move into coaching at
men's level.
The ex-Blackburn Rovers and Charlton Athletic midfielder enjoyed
five years with the Avenue Stadium club after his professional career
was ended by a tackle from Wolverhampton Wanderers' Kevin Muscat.
The 38-year-old has also developed a career running children's
soccer schools in the Bournemouth area and helps out with AFC Bournemouth's
centre of excellence. However, he has been linked with a return
to the Magpies as a coach - a possibility he will not rule out.
"It would be nice to help the club because I had good times
here," said Holmes, who attended Saturday's home game with
Bromley. "(Dorch director of football) Shaun Brooks is an old
playing colleague of mine and a good friend, so we will have to
see what happens. I have not spoken to him about anything.
"I have been very busy coaching in kids' football and helping
out at AFC Bournemouth. But things change in football - and coaching
in men's football would interest me absolutely. I have done my level-B
coaching badge and I get assessed in February."
Meanwhile, Saturday's game was attended by 86-year-old Ron Cox,
a member of the 1954 Dorchester team who reached the second round
of the FA Cup, going out to York City in front of 5,500 fans at
the old Avenue ground.
Cox said: "I had been threatening to come down to the new
ground week after week and I finally got here. It is a first-class
stadium."
