'Terrific' Town out on penalties
by
Howard Milton
Dorchester Town crashed out of the FA Youth Cup at the preliminary-round
stage on Tuesday.
They lost a penalty shootout at Poole Town 3-2 following a 1-1
draw after extra-time. Ricky King put Poole ahead but Richard Read
levelled.
Dorch general manager Phil Basford said: "We could not have
asked for any more from the lads. It was a terrific team performance
and much better than in Saturday's defeat at Broadway Academy.
"We told them that Saturday's performance was not acceptable
and they responded.
"We gave a game to (Australian) midfielder Mitchell Nicholson.
He has been training full-time with the first team, did very well
and formed a solid central-midfield partnership with Dan Jones.
Full credit to Poole - they have a good side - but it was one of
those games neither team deserved to lose."
Hamworthy United went out 11-10 on penalties to Gillingham Town,
the game finishing 1-1 after 120 minutes.
