Manager Senior puzzled by team's inconsistency

Western Gazetteby Howard Milton

The Magpies fell to their second successive Division Two defeat with this setback on Saturday to leave manager Trevor Senior puzzled by his side's inconsistent performances.

He said: "It was a bit of an after-the-Lord-Mayor's-Show display following the performance we put in last Tuesday in the FA Youth Cup match against Poole Town.

"City Academy were not a great side but we conceded two goals just before half-time.

"I did not read the riot act at the break because you feel you are hammering home the same points and saying the same things to them each time - so I did it a different way and got a response."

Dorchester pressured the City Academy goal but could not force the visitors' keeper into any serious second-half work. Leaving gaps in defence, the guests tried to take advantage and Town gloveman Regan Coward was forced into two decent saves.

Senior said: "We need to work on a better pattern of play.

"Positional sense and communication are poor.

"We have a nice group of lads but they need a bit more toughening up.

"They are fine in training when they pass the ball around at pace and things like that - but on Saturday they did not do that too well."
