Striker crisis as Magpies sign off

Director of football Shaun Brooks could have a striker crisis on
his hands for the club's final game of the Blue Square South season
at Bromley tomorrow (3pm).
Top scorer Jones Awuah is struggling with an Achilles injury while fellow forward Eric Manangu, whose made just two substitute appearances for the county town side, is out with a knee complaint.
Another player definitely out of contention is Australian full- back Jamie Cumming, whose left the club and returned to his homeland.
Brooks said: "Jones has been carrying the problem for a few weeks but was willing to play while there was still a chance of survival so I don't know if he'll be okay for one more game.
"Eric is only in the early stages of his rehab so he won't be fit for Saturday. Patrece Liburd and Roy O'Brien are still struggling for fitness as is Alex Browne who hasn't got the bank of fitness he once had so we will have to assess him before the game.
"Jamie's contract was terminated because he's been away from home for two years and is feeling rather homesick.
"He's improved over the season but recognises he won't be a League footballer which was what he hoped to achieve.
"Defensively we should be okay because we have Gary Bowles and Nathan Peprah-Annan while Mark Jermyn can fill in at right-back if needed. However, we are short of forwards."
The Magpies' chief is expected to trim his squad in the early part of next week and insists he already knows who will get the chop and who will remain.
He added: "I know who I'd like to stay so the Bromley game won't change my mind.
"I know what the core of the side will be for next year and once our season is over I will go out and watch any remaining games and try to attract some new players."
Brooks also confirmed that Jon Docker is the only man certain of spending next term at the Jewson Stadium due to the length of the midfielder's contract.
Tomorrow's hosts have an outside chance of making the play-offs while Brooks' charges will look to end a dismal campaign on a positive note.
He said: "We're obviously disappointed with how the season has gone so we will just try to go out on a good note.
"Some of the younger lads like Darren Watts and Mitchell Nicholson will come in and we'll give it a go.
"It's been a long hard season but we need one more massive effort from the players."
