Three new faces can bolster Compton's men

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

Dorchester Town assistant-manager Paul Compton has told his players it's "payback time" ahead of tomorrow's Blue Square South game at play-off chasing Eastleigh (3pm).

Compton criticised members of the Magpies' team after last week's woeful defeat at home to fellow strugglers St Albans City, and believes that they must repay the club and the supporters starting with tomorrow's trip.

He said: "The players owe the fans big time and should put in a performance that the fans can be proud of at Eastleigh. The players also owe the management staff and the owner Eddie Mitchell so it's payback time.

"I expect there to be a reaction from the players because last week's game was an embarrassment. A better performance from the lads against Eastleigh would be a start, we have made it clear to them that if they want to be at the club next year then they need to pull their fingers out."

Despite losing the so-called six-pointer' last Saturday, Compton is adamant the club's fate remains in their hands.

He added: "We've got 17 games to get out of the relegation places but it's entirely up to us, it's still in our hands. Thankfully for us St Albans lost on Tuesday night so that has worked in our favour but we can't rely on others to get us out of trouble."

The Magpies go into the game without an away league victory in almost five months but the former Torquay United and Weymouth manager is excited given his three new acquisitions.

Midfielder Danny Clay arrives on a month's loan from Salisbury City while ex-Torquay keeper Martin Horsell has agreed terms and striker Tom Clarke joins on a non-contract basis after his release by Yeovil Town.

Compton said: "Danny has a lot of experience behind him having won promotion with Salisbury last season so it's great to have him here. Tom showed good movement in our friendly draw with Salisbury on Tuesday so we've decided to have another look at him and Martin goes straight into the line-up.

"Hopefully though, we may have another new face in time to play Eastleigh, we are just waiting to hear."

Dorchester will be without forward Elliot Bent and keeper Simon Evans who are both suffering with knee injuries, but Compton is hoping that Alex Browne (shin) and Ivan Forbes (stomach) can pass fitness tests.
