Magpies make good impression on Clay
by

Danny Clay is determined to win as many games as possible in his
time at Dorchester and says he would consider extending his initial
one-month loan.
The Salisbury City midfielder made his Magpies' debut in last Saturday's
3-1 defeat at Eastleigh, and is expected to play his first match
in black and white at the Jewson Stadium today (3pm) against title-chasing
Eastbourne Borough.
And the 22-year-old has been impressed since his arrival ten days
ago. He told Echosport: "It's a good club with a good management
structure and a good set of lads. I'm enjoying my time here so far
and if I was offered the chance to stay longer then I would definitely
consider it.
"I haven't been here very long but from what I saw last week
against Eastleigh I thought we played really well for the first
hour but we let in some sloppy goals, and mistakes are costing us
right now so it's vital that we cut them out in future games."
Clay insists he is here to do a job and help the Magpies climb
to safety in Blue Square South. He added: "We are struggling
at the moment but hopefully we can pick up and avoid relegation.
I'm here to try and win as many games as possible in a month as
well as play as many matches as I can.
"It's important that we start winning our home games. We've
got Eastbourne and Bishop's Stortford at home in the next few days
so we need to be picking up points in those matches."
Clay, who trains with the Magpies on a part-time basis, knows
what this level of football is all about and when the opportunity
to join Dorchester arose, he was more than happy to oblige.
He said: "I joined Salisbury in November 2006 and we went
on to achieve promotion through the play-offs so I have played in
this league quite recently.
"I have played a few games for Salisbury in the Blue Square
Premier this season but a lot of the time I've been played on the
right side of midfield which isn't my best position so I was happy
to come to Dorchester."
The former Exeter City man, who twice played against Manchester
United in the FA Cup, believes that should the county town side
escape the drop this season they will reap the rewards of their
full-time status next campaign.
Clay added: "All the players at the club are good technically
perhaps it's just a case of being too naive at times but I'm sure
the players will get better with age.
"There's a good young squad here at the moment but if the
club can avoid relegation and keep the players together then they
will be in a good position to build. Going full-time is definitely
the way forward though."
