Compton: Magpies must show appetite for Fish
by
Ky Capel
Dorchester Town assistant-boss Paul Compton believes "the right
hunger and desire" could see them upset play-off chasing Fisher
Athletic at Champion Hill tomorrow (3pm).
The Magpies visit one of Blue Square South's in-form sides, given Fisher have lost just once in 11 league games, but Compton remains positive going into the clash.
He said: "The situation is in our own hands. The performances against Cambridge City and Sutton United were encouraging while in Monday night's defeat at Havant the elements were against us after we lost Alex Browne to a head injury and had Gary Bowles sent off.
"But, without a shadow of a doubt, the right hunger and desire will help us on Saturday and for the remainder of the season. It was that which gave us a point at Cambridge and at home to Sutton.
"Some would say the result against Sutton wasn't good but I'd rather look at it as a clean sheet and a point gained.
"Newport beat Welling on Wednesday night so that helps us and shows that we are still in with a chance of surviving. A lot of people are still all doom and gloom about our chances but I'm remaining positive and that's what I want everyone else to do. We had good support at Cam-bridge and that was a big help so it would be great to see that again."
Despite being turned down by Weymouth forward Gavin McCallum, who has now joined Havant & Waterlooville, the Magpies could yet have a new face in their line-up tomorrow.
Defender Patrece Liburd, who earlier this month represented St Kitts & Nevis in their 3-1 World Cup qualifying defeat to Belize, has been training with the county town outfit this week.
Compton is hopeful of signing the 19-year-old whose spent much of this season at Blue Square North side Worcester City.
He added: "We enquired about Gavin but he decided not come to us. I know Patrece from when he was on trial at Cardiff City a while back. He did well there so hopefully we will have him signed on for tomorrow's game."
Meanwhile, top scorer Jones Awuah returned to training yesterday after three games out with illness. But on the negative side, Dorchester look certain to be without club captain Alex Browne who picked up a gash to his forehead on Monday night while Jon Docker is suspended.
Compton said: "It's a shame Jon is suspended because his performances in the last few games have been good and he's shown his skills and abilities."
Dorchester beat the Fish 2-1 at home back in September but since then have won just once in the league.
