New striker hope fades for Compton
by

Dorchester Town assistant-manager Paul Compton admits he is now
less than confident of making any new signings ahead of tomorrow's
trip to Hayes & Yeading United in Blue Square South (3pm).
Earlier in the week Compton revealed that an unnamed club were
reluctant to let one of his transfer targets leave on loan but he
remained hopeful of securing the signature of a "renowned goal
scorer".
Compton said: "It would be nice to have a new face in the
squad for Saturday's game because it would give me the chance to
rest a couple of players who have been working hard recently, such
as Jones Awauh. But I'm not as hopeful as I was a few days ago,
it's just a case of making phone calls and wait and see."
The Magpies make the journey to Church Road for an encounter that
Compton believes his side are more than capable of winning, despite
occupying one of three relegation spots.
He added: "It's winnable, very much so. Hayes & Yeading
are similar to Cambridge City in terms of league position, and if
we can pick up a few wins on the road it would be great.
"It's important that given the results last Saturday, where
all the teams around us lost, we take advantage. We have got the
chance to climb out of the bottom three if we win and Bognor Regis
don't, and we also have games in hand."
Both sides have picked up just one win in their last five games,
yet United have conceded 12 goals in their previous four league
fixtures.
Compton though, isn't worrying himself with form guides. He said:
"I don't take anything for granted. Anyone can beat anyone,
especially in this league, and I'm yet to come across any outstanding
team so I'm confident going into the game."
Magpie James Rowe is suspended after picking up five bookings this
season, but Tareq Khalil is expected to return to the starting XI
after being cup-tied for the 2-0 FA Trophy defeat to Ebbsfleet last
weekend.
Club captain Alex Browne meanwhile, whose expected ankle operation
has been put on hold due to a lack of club funds, could be back
in contention.
Compton added: "Alex has been back in training this week and
he has had some injections to help him along. I've spoken to our
physio Geoff Dine and we are hopeful he might be able to play. Elliot
Bent has also returned to training but he is lacking match fitness
so he is unlikely to start."
Tomorrow's opponents will be without suspended striker Kieran Knight
while new signing Alessio De Angelis, a former Lazio goalkeeper
with seven Serie A appearances to his name, is awaiting international
clearance.
