Magpies exodus?

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

A much-needed point away from home in the battle to avoid the drop from Blue Square South has been marred by speculation of a mass exodus from Dorchester Town's board of directors.

The club is expected to issue a statement in the next 24 hours with no one, including owner Eddie Mitchell, wanting to comment on the issue until then.

Meanwhile assistant-manager Paul Compton was pleased to see the Magpies fight back and earn themselves a point at Hayes & Yeading United on Saturday.

Danny Allen-Page put United into the lead after 11 minutes only to see the county town visitors reply through top scorer Jones Awuah, his tenth of the season.

Josh Scott restored the hosts' advantage as they went into half-time 2-1 up, but Jamie Gleeson levelled proceedings once more ten minutes after the restart.

The Magpies remain in the bottom three of Blue Square South but Compton was content with the 2-2 outcome.

He said: "A point away from home is always good, it could have been three points for us but the pleasing thing was that we came back twice and showed good character in the second half to pick ourselves up.

"I was a bit disappointed with a few performances in the first half but we changed things around, I moved Mark Jermyn from right back to midfield and we came out fighting. Our lads stood up to Hayes and I was pleased with that.

"The first goal Hayes scored was a deflection and their second came from our defence looking for the offside flag, so in future if we defend properly we won't give away sloppy goals.

"We had a goal disallowed, which was rather unjust in my opinion, but in the scheme of things four points out of a possible six in our last two league matches is a good return and I couldn't ask for much more from the lads in the two games."

The Magpies' closest rivals to safety are now Welling United following Bognor Regis' win over Thurrock. Compton though, isn't concerned with other results.

He said: "We have just got to concentrate on ourselves ultimately and not worry about what others are doing. We've got Eastbourne Borough away on Tuesday night and if we can pick up a point there that would be great.

"It's important that we take the spirit of our last two league performances into Tuesday and that we get into a routine of not losing games.

"If we can win our home games and keep picking up points on the road then I'm sure we'll be fine."

Meanwhile Terras owner Malcolm Curtis has reiter-ated that he has never had any plans for Weymouth to merge with Dorchester Town.

He said in a statement released on the club's website: "Neither the board nor I have had any discussions with Dorchester FC or intend to do so moving forwards.

"I can also confirm that there are no plans on the table to partner or merge with any other teams, our intention is to remain an independent club whilst achieving financial stability."
