Basford ready for showdown talks

Dorchester Town under-18s' general manager Phil Basford hopes the
team will continue, despite the resignation of Shaun Hearn.
Hearn, Town's now-former vice-chairman, was one of the main instigators
behind the setting-up of the South West Counties Youth League outfit
in 2006 but stepped down last week.
Basford played down rumours the side have had their funding withdrawn
by owner Eddie Mitchell.
"I spoke with Shaun last Thursday," said Basford. "He
is a man of his word and he said the team will be funded until the
end of the season. Shaun is a director I have been working with
to develop the team and the uncertainty is worrying. Rumours on
the (Internet) fans' forums do not help. You get kids on there and
everything gets blown out of proportion.
"I have been involved with youth football (in the area) for
12 years and my dream was always to develop players from youth team
through to first team. Last year we brought in Darren Watts (now
on the fringes of the first-team squad) and now we have the likes
of Chris Clark, Regan Coward and Alan Hill who are looking promising.
Basford will let the situation "cool down" before determining
the team's long-term future.
"The best thing to do is get Saturday out of the way,"
he said. "I will have to talk with Eddie Mitchell. I want to
see what the club has in mind but let things cool down a bit first.
I hope the club will see fit to honour everyone's commitments."
