Brooks' new signings out to impress at Ringwood

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

Dorchester Town kick-off their pre-season friendlies tonight (7.45pm) with a trip to Wessex League outfit Ringwood Town.

In line to make their first appearances in a Magpies' shirt are summer signings Nick Crittenden, Kevin Hill, Jamie Mudge and Ronayne Benjamin Marsh-Brown.

Manager Shaun Brooks will also run the rule over trialist keeper Nick Hutchings, formerly of Hamworthy United.

He said: "We will use two teams, one in each half, with the part-timers playing the first half and the younger squad members playing the second.

"I'll be looking for us to gain some confidence, build some rhythm and work on the shape of the team.

"We've had decent training sessions so far and the lads are in decent shape, so I'm looking forward to the games.

"Nick Hutchings will feature and hopefully I'll have another keeper coming down for the game. Over the coming week we should hopefully get a look at two or three possible keepers."

Both Dorchester and Ringwood finished in the relegation places of their respective leagues last year, but the Magpies earned a reprieve to remain in the Blue Square South while the Long Lane outfit were relegated to Division One of the Wessex League.

Brooks added: "We played Ringwood last year but we went there with a unknown team, however, this year we know a lot more about the team we have got.

"I want to see us move the ball around quickly and have plenty of attempts at goal."

Brooks' squad currently stands at 17 contracted players, and the county town boss is keen to add to that before the start of the season.

He said: "We're still short, we've got some quality but not a lot of depth. We will have a few trialists to look at and there are certain positions to fill but once we get a keeper sorted out then we'll be pretty much sorted.

"We will keep our eyes open for anything better than what we've got."

Last year's club captain Alex Browne is now player-assistant boss, but Brooks will wait to name his skipper for next season.

He added: "I haven't decided yet. I've got two or three in mind and I will make a decision before the season starts."
