Trialists put to the test at Tatnam
by Ky Capel
Dorchester visit Poole Town tonight (7.45pm) in the second game
of their pre-season friendly programme.
The Magpies will be keen to build on Tuesday night's 3-0 win at Ringwood Town when they play Wessex Premier League outfit Poole, who finished fourth last season.
Manager Shaun Brooks fielded two different line-ups in each half at the Canotec Stadium, including five trialists, and is expected to do the same against ex-Magpie Tommy Killick's Dolphins.
Goalkeepers Ryan Harrison and Nick Hutchings, defender Kevin Gill, midfielder Bill Puckett and forward Taylor Morgan all played at Ringwood, and with Brooks wanting more time to make a decision over the hopefuls' futures, all five should feature at Tatnam Farm tonight.
Brooks said: "Poole are a better outfit than Ringwood but we will go there to get another 45 minutes in the legs of all the players.
"It's also important to get the players into the way we want to play this season.
"We will go there with the same 22 or so players and try to mix the teams up a bit.
"The so-called trialists' are not necessarily on trial as some of them we would like to give the opportunity of training with us on a daily basis, with a view to them maybe playing for a local Wessex League team to get some games.
"Then, when they are physically stronger, they could work towards breaking into our first team. We don't want to dismiss young talent."
