Walker knocking on door to face Hammers

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

Michael Walker could make his return in a Dorchester Town shirt tonight when the Magpies visit Wessex Premier League side Hamworthy United in a friendly (7.45pm).

The ex-Magpie, whose last appearance for the county town side came in the 2006/07 season, has been training with the club since last week and is being considered for tonight's trip to the County Ground, where he could come face to face with his younger brother Nathan.

Manager Shaun Brooks said: "Michael came in to training last week and hopefully we will involve him in a game. I'm hoping to arrange a match for Wednesday too so we should be able to involve him in at least one game this week.

"I saw him train last Thursday and although it was only one training session, he has a decent left foot and is a decent size. The next stage is to watch him in a game now."

And Brooks has almost a fully fit group of players to choose from with midfielder Jamie Gleeson the only absentee.

Brooks added: "Jamie has a knock on the outside of his knee, he's done some jogging but, until he's completely pain free, we won't risk him."

The Magpies have made a good start to their pre-season preparations, recording 3-0 and 2-0 wins over Ringwood Town and Poole Town respectively.

The county town boss is looking to continue the positive work when his side visits the Hammers who are managed by former Dorchester player and reserve team boss Phil Simkin.

Brooks said: "Most of the players who play will get slightly longer so any changes we do make will be done later on in the game.

"We looked fitter against Poole and the players looked to have understood the shape of the team a lot better.

"Hamworthy are at the same level as Poole but their pitch isn't quite as big so it will be a bit tighter for us whereas at Poole we had more space to move the ball around."
