Never had it so good

Injured star Mark Jermyn believes the Magpies have a much more "settled"
side and that the dressing room atmosphere is "as good as it's
ever been".
The 27-year-old, who can play in defence or midfield, sustained
a knee ligament injury following a tackle with ex-Liverpool defender
Djimi Traore during Dorchester's 1-1 draw with a Portsmouth XI ten
days ago and now faces a lengthy lay-off.
But with the way the team is performing on the pitch right now,
including a 2-2 draw with AFC Bournemouth on Tuesday night, Jermyn's
disappointment has been curbed somewhat.
Jermyn, whose team-mates travel to South West Peninsular League
outfit Stoke Gabriel tonight (6.30pm) for a friendly, said: "It
is disappointing for myself especially after that tackle, which
I didn't think was a good one for a pre-season game.
"But against Bournemouth, the boys put on one of the best
passing displays I've seen in a Dorchester game. I thought they
played really well.
"The team looks a lot more settled than it has done previously.
Last season the team was a bit iffy.
This season we are a strong outfit and I think we are going to
surprise quite a few teams.
"Everyone's looking forward to the season, I'm looking forward
to it too. Obviously I want to be playing but I enjoy watching the
lads, and at the moment it's great to be a member of the squad.
"I'm going to be out for at least six weeks, maybe longer,
and I'm just looking forward to getting myself back playing. I started
the pre-season okay but the injury has set me back a bit."
Jermyn, entering his ninth season as a Magpie, has not only been
impressed with the progress made on the pitch and the signings brought
in by manager Shaun Brooks, but also the efforts made throughout
the club as a whole.
He added: "Everything, including what's going on around the
club, shows that the structure is there for a good team. The changing
room is as good as it's ever been and we've got some great characters.
The overall feeling around the club is positive."
Of tonight's fixture, organised as a fund- raiser for former assistant-manager
Paul Comp-ton's stepson Lee Setter, Brooks said: "All the squad
will be going and it's a game arranged to raise funds for the care
of Paul's stepson Lee who was involved in a car crash in May.
"We will use squad players who have not had a lot of game
time and fill the team out with some of the others."
Goalkeeper Michael McEntagart though, is to have a trial at Charlton
Athletic.
Brooks added: "Michael's going to Charlton for a few days.
He's a keeper we'd like to work with so we will speak to him on
a regular basis."
