Brooks 'will not get sack'

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

Eddie Mitchell declared last night that should Dorchester Town be relegated director of football Shaun Brooks would not get the sack.

The Magpies' majority shareholder made the statement at the club's Fans' Forum, where just short of 40 supporters gathered.

Mitchell said: "If Shaun went then I would go too. I believe in his ability and we entered this together.

"Shaun believes in what he's doing, I know he's been ill with cancer this season but I will not sack him. My opinion is that he and I inherited a club that was in turmoil."

The Magpies are six points adrift of Welling United and safety in Blue Square South. When asked whether he would resign should he be unable to maintain the county town side's league status, Brooks said: "I would be bitterly disappointed if we got relegated and I would take full responsibility. However, it would only make me re-double my efforts."

Other matters discussed last night at the Jewson Stadium included an as yet unnamed person joining the club's board, the possibility of laying artificial turf on the pitch in order to bring in more revenue through increased usage, and the further development of a Supporters' Trust.

Mitchell also declared that any possible interest he has with AFC Bournemouth's current plight would be on a development basis as opposed to the football side. He added: "I've never been interested in taking over at Bournemouth. I was more interested in the development potential."
