Brooks will select from 'strongest squad'

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

Shaun Brooks believes the current Dorchester Town squad is the strongest it has been this season ahead of tomorrows crucial trip to Bognor Regis Town (3pm).

The Magpies go into the game six points adrift of safety in Blue Square South with ten games left to save themselves while the Rocks are eight points above the drop zone.

And the county town director of football is hoping that the confidence from last weeks draw at Fisher Athletic can help his side pick up all three points at Nyewood Lane.

He said: We had a good result last Saturday at Fisher and to be fair the lads have been tremendous in the amount of work theyve put in this week at training. Were all very optimistic of going to Bognor and being competitive.

Everyone is fighting for their place and I feel were putting together a strong substitutes bench as well now. Players are having to perform well to retain the shirt, which is perhaps something weve not had at times this season for whatever reason.

The new boys Patrece Liburd and Nick Eastham came in last week and did extremely well. I think the squad is as strong as it has been all season perhaps.

Brooks is keen for his players to forget about the other sides in the relegation equation and focus on themselves alone.

He added: We cant worry about what other teams are doing, we have to pick up points ourselves otherwise we will never get out of the bottom three.

Welling United increased the gap to six points when they beat Bishops Stortford on Tuesday night so theyve pulled themselves further away but we cant expect the teams around us to lose. Everyones fighting for their lives and we have got to look after ourselves.

Bognor have failed to record back-to-back wins all season, and after last Saturdays victory at Sutton United the Magpies will be keen for that statistic to continue.

Of tomorrows opponents, Brooks said: Bognor are a good footballing side with a decent pitch, so we will go there with a way of playing that will help us get something from the game.

I dont think we will go anywhere and play fantastic football so we need to be competitive in order to get a result. I think that if were well organised then we are a match for any side.

Club captain Alex Browne returns after concussion kept him out of last Saturdays stalemate while Roy OBrien (ankle) and Jake Smeaton (groin) are expected to overcome slight knocks.

Striker Eric Manangu though serves the final game of the two-match suspension he incurred before joining the club.
