Magpies 'equipped' for run-in

With just nine games of the season to go Shaun Brooks is happy with
the Magpies' run-in and believes his side is now better equipped
to avoid relegation from the Blue Square South.
Dorchester go into Saturday's home clash with Maidenhead United unbeaten in their last two fixtures, and with games against Basingstoke Town, Weston-super-Mare and Thurrock later this month Brooks is happy with the opposition standing in their way.
The director of football said: "We don't want to be playing all the top teams who are chasing promotion, because they are at a different level to us.
"The run-in we have got is favourable, it's okay in my view. We just have to stay competitive but perhaps be a bit more open in our attacking."
A month ago the Magpies' hopes of survival were looking grim following five straight defeats and 18 goals conceded in that period.
Now, with one defeat in five and just seven conceded, the county town boss is pleased with his side's progress.
He added: "We did need to stop conceding so many goals and we did drill that into the players. It was a case of making sure we were in with a fighting chance in games to then go on and try to win them.
"In our last two games we had chances in the final quarter of an hour to take all three points but couldn't quite find that final touch.
"Things are looking better, the last couple of games our form has been better and we've only been beaten once in five games.
"We need to stay resolute and start turning one point into three, but we are entering games with more confidence and belief, and we have shown that we can compete.
"There are a lot of young players at the club who had been on the end of some bad results so morale was low and they were lacking a bit of direction because different people were taking training and the games.
"But we've got them training early in the mornings and they've got curfews in the evenings so we've tightened things up and the lads have responded well."
