Brooks: Easter double could prove decisive

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

Director of football Shaun Brooks believes that two wins over the Easter weekend will change the whole complex of the Blue Square South relegation dogfight.

The Magpies take on Basingstoke Town tomorrow (3pm) at the Jewson Stadium before travelling to Weston-super-Mare on Easter Monday.

And the need for points was increased further following Welling's midweek victory at Newport County.

Brooks, whose side is nine points from safety, said: "It wasn't the best result for us but like I've said before there's nothing we can do about the other teams around us. There are still 27 points to play for and we have got to get as many of those as possible.

"It makes the situation more difficult for us but it hasn't put us under any more pressure because we know we have got to win games."

Dorchester, although without a league victory in 11 games, come up against two teams who have failed to win in their last eight league fixtures respectively.

Brooks added: "There has been some upheaval at Basingstoke, given the fact they have changed manager, but they're safe from relegation. Weston's form isn't great either and two or three games ago they were looking okay, but now they have been dragged into it and it just shows what two or three wins can do for you."

The Magpies' last outing, at home to Maidenhead United, was brought to a premature end due to a heavy downpour.

In that game the county town boss opted for a more attacking formation, playing Jon Docker just behind the front two of Jones Awuah and Nick Eastham.

Brooks added: "That shape worked well for us and I don't want to disrupt it too much.

"People have commented in the past that we tinker with the side too much, but we had to do so at the time. Now, the team we are putting out is earning the right to pick itself.

"We've got some good attacking players but we've not been scoring enough goals. We created chances last week against Maidenhead and we need the same tempo and work rate this weekend."

Eastham was stretchered off during last week's abandoned game with an ankle injury but Brooks is hopeful the Salisbury City loanee will feature tomorrow.

He said: "Nick has been seeing a physio at Salisbury and hopefully he should be back for the Basingstoke game.

"It's a busy period coming up and we will have to check on the players' fitness. We'll have a training session on Sunday in preparation for Monday's game."
