Top scorer Jones 'definitely' stays

Western Gazetteby Howard Milton

Top-scorer Jones Awuah expects to be a Dorchester Town player next season.

Eight Magpies have signed new one-year contracts for next term. But 23-year-old forward Awuah is not one of them. Awuah said: "I am still talking to the gaffer (director of football Shaun Brooks). I want to stay and he wants me to stay - it will definitely happen."

The Ghanaian admits his first full season with the county-town club has been "tough".

He said: "It was really difficult for me at the beginning of the season because the fans were getting on my back as the team were not winning or scoring goals.

"It has been tough but at the same time the experience has been good for me because I managed to score 13 goals."

Awuah said Brooks' mid-season absence because of illness affected the team deeply.

"When he came back everything turned," said Awuah. "We were more organised, knew what we were doing and wanted to go out and play - nothing against anyone who took us in the meantime."

Meanwhile, Brooks wants to finish new contract negotiations with the remainder of his squad by the end of this week. The likes of Alex Browne, Roy O'Brien and Francisco Ramos are still considering new deals.

Brooks said: "Some are taking options to look around because they feel they might be able to continue playing at Blue Square South level. We would like an answer sooner rather than later so we know where we stand."

Brooks confirmed he is tracking "five or six" potential signings.
