Young Magpies secure victory in late goal-fest
by
James Tizzard
Phil Basford's under-18 side retained their 100 per cent start to
their South West Counties League Cup campaign with a thrilling 4-3
victory over Hamworthy United which saw six goals scored in the
closing half-hour.
Dorchester took the lead after only ten minutes through Lewis
Trevett, but had to wait another 50 minutes before doubling their
advantage when strike- partner Luke Turk found the net.
Hamworthy's Luice Pidgley reduced the Magpies' lead on 70 minutes
and just five minutes later the scores were level when Tommy Smith
scored past Sam Filkins in the home side's goal.
Dorchester were back in front almost immediately, however, when
centre-back Jamie Hopkins headed home from an Adam Taylor corner.
Turk scored his second of the game in the 80th minute to restore
the Magpies' two-goal lead, before Pidgley also grabbed his second
of the match five minutes from time from the penalty spot to set
up a nervy finish.
The Magpies held firm, however, to claim all three points and move
up to fourth in group B, with a game in hand on Salisbury, Eastleigh
and Team Bath above them.
