Under 18s lose opener

by Devin Ward

A Ceri Morgan goal mid-way through the first half inflicted an opening day defeat on Dorchester Town under 18 team in the South-West counties youth league.

Lewis Trevett went close to bring the Magpies back on level terms before half time however, some good defending from Steve Martin and Kalum Hynes in the Welsh side defence prevented him.

Further chances fell to Dorchester in the second half in which the Magpies were much improved and were unlucky not to get a point when Neil Kellaway and Adam Taylor both went close, but could not find a way pasted Miarus Clyne in the visitors’ goal.

With the home side pushing forward looking for an equalizer it was Merthyr who nearly scored in the last minute, Sam Filkins produced a great save to prevent the Welsh outfit extending their lead.
