Player search setback for Brooks

Dorchester Town manager Shaun Brooks is still searching for new faces after being turned down by two players this week.

The Magpies' boss, who made eight new signings in the summer, has made no secret of his desire to bolster the county town squad following a poor run of form.

Dorchester have gone 10 games without a win and host Newport County on Saturday in their FA Cup second qualifying round tie.

Brooks though, doubts he will have any new players on board for the cup clash. He said: "We've been turned down by two players but we're still tracking one or two.

"The players who turned us down are associated with other clubs and it came down to finance, but we'll keep working away. There's no guarantee that we'll have someone in for Saturday though.

"Having said that the squad we have got is more than capable of winning games at this level."

Brooks did not wish to name the two players who dismissed Dorchester's advances but did reveal that injured star Mark Jermyn has returned to training following a knee injury sustained in July.

However, of Jermyn's comeback, Brooks added: "He's still 10 days away."

Close rivals Weymouth put five of their players on the transfer list at the weekend but Brooks distanced himself from any potential move for those players.

He said: "We did receive a call from Weymouth about one or two of their players but their budget and wages far exceed ours so their players earn more money there than what we are able to pay."

With no win since the opening day of the season, three defeats in their last three fixtures, and calls for his resignation from some of the club's fans, Brooks admits he is feeling the pressure.

He added: "Absolutely. Ten games in the league gives you a true reflection of where you are as a team, and we've come up short.

"There are contributing factors but the fact is that we are not where we want to be. The only joy you get being a manager is out of winning games. There is a lot of discontent around the club but you can only answer that by winning games."

Meanwhile, loan signing Wes Fogden has returned to Brighton & Hove Albion following his one-month deal.

Brooks said: "We will speak to Wes soon but he has returned to Brighton. He's been terrific for the club and epitomises everything we are trying to do here in that he's young and has loads of enthusiasm."

* Two goals from Charlie Lee and a second half strike from Neil Kellaway earned the Magpies' Under-18s a place in the second qualifying round of the FA Youth Cup after they beat Shaftesbury 3-1 last night at the Jewson Stadium.
