Ryan to boost Magpies

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

Dorchester Town welcome back Ryan Moss for tonight’s visit of Newport County (7.45pm).

The striker missed the 4-1 defeat at newly promoted Dover Athletic on Saturday through work commitments, but is available to face the Exiles as the Magpies search for a return to winning ways.

And assistant-boss Ashley Vickers is hopeful that last season’s joint top-scorer can help the county town squad halt a two-game losing streak in Blue Square South.

He said: “We’ve got Ryan back which is good, he had work commitments on Saturday but he’s okay for tonight.

“We knew beforehand that he would miss some games because of his work so it’s something we have just got to roll with.”

Former Newport defender Vickers missed County’s 1-0 victory at Dorchester last April because of a gentleman’s agreement following his move to the Jewson Stadium a month before.

However, the 37-year-old is free for selection this evening, for what he expects to be a tough encounter against an unbeaten Welsh outfit.

Vickers added: “I enjoyed my time at Newport last year and I am available to play against them this time.

“But I’ll just be as fired up for this game as I am with any other game, and hopefully that will transpire on to the players.

“Newport are on a good run, they’ve got a good manager in Dean Holdsworth and they’ve brought in some decent players so expectations there are high this season.

“However, we’re more than capable of matching them and we’re quite capable of beating them. If we start right and do our jobs then the quality we have in the side will shine through.

“We also need to start taking our chances because if you don’t you will get punished.”

Midfielder Harry Montacute will tonight serve the final game of a three-match ban.

Magpies (from): Northmore, Coward, Jermyn, Smeeton, Hill, Bowles, Vickers, Martin, Mitchell, Gleeson, Nodwell, Crittenden, Forbes, Moss, Walsh, Groves, Flood, O’Brien.
