Magpies call on community
by

Dorchester Town Under-18s’ boss Phil Basford is calling on
the community to enter the club’s Patron’s Draw and help
raise much-needed funds.
The young Magpies will be playing in a revamped South West Counties
League next season, which sees them play twice as many games as
last season.
And businesses, or individuals, will get the chance to have their
name printed on the county town outfit’s shirts by entering
this year’s draw at a cost of £60.
As an added incentive each entrant will receive 150 free children’s
tickets to be distributed to a good cause, as well as complimentary
tickets, to a first team game next season.
Basford said: “The youth team receives no funding from Dorchester
Town FC or any other organisation whatsoever.
“Therefore each year we need to raise enough funds to enable
us to continue running the team, thus allowing us to offer boys
the chance to play in a high standard of semi-professional football.
The team itself is run by volunteers, which allows us to spend
all monies raised in the development of the players and the running
costs incurred.
“The team did well last season with some of the players
making the step up to the first team squad in the FA Cup, Dorset
Senior Cup and Blue Square South.”
Anyone wishing to enter the draw, or find out more information
on the under-18s, should contact 07966507149 or email dtfcunder18team@aol.com
Meanwhile,
the Magpies’ fixture list has been released and
they will kick off the new campaign with a home match against Richard
Huish College on Saturday, September 5. The first derby clash with Weymouth takes place at Redlands on
October 24 with the return fixture at the Rec on February 20.
