Training plans for the Magpies
by Dev Ward
Dorchester Town have today submitted exciting plans to the local council for a training pitch on land near the Avenue Stadium.
The plans, submitted to West Dorset District Council and The Duchy of Cornwall, are for two 3rd generation training pitches. The pitches are to be situated on a piece of unused grassed area currently owned under the lease by Tesco Stores Ltd.
Over the last few months Dorchester Town FC representatives have been in talks with Tesco in an attempt to take over the lease on this land, which has been left unused for over 16 years now. It has been with regret that for reasons unknown Tesco have not been forthcoming and have dismissed any possible training facility being placed on the Weymouth Avenue site.
It is now that the football club has taken it a step further and has applied for planning permission for two 3rd generation training pitches to be granted on the site in an attempt to add weight to our case.
This training facility would not only meet FA requirements for 5/6 a-side games but also introduce the latest state-of-the-art artificial grass.
It is thought this will provide Dorchester Town FC 1st team with a much needed training facility and also give all the Dorchester youth teams a place to hold there weekly training sessions. In addition to this when not in use by Dorchester Town FC it would be made available to the paying public, giving the football club a much needed income from and excellent community resource.
Football Club representatives were astounded that Tesco were not forthcoming especially considering their involvement with the FA Skills School and the Community, using high profile faces such as Frank Lampard and Kelly Smith to promote such causes.
With plans being submitted today we ask all of you if you can help support this proposal and hopefully force the hand of Tesco. The more support the Town can generate the harder it will be for Tesco to refuse such a fantastic opportunity for both Dorchester Town FC and the local community.
Dorchester Town FC are doing all they can to try and give the Football Club the much needed facilities it has required for so many years.
