Mudge to return?

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

Dorchester Town are interested in bringing Jamie Mudge back to the Jewson Stadium.

The striker netted 12 goals in all competitions for the Magpies last season and finished as the club’s joint top scorer despite leaving at the end of January due to a cost-cutting exercise.

Player-boss Roy O’Brien and his assistant Ashley Vickers are keen to add more firepower to the county town ranks for next season’s Blue Square South campaign and Mudge fits the bill.

However, talks are at an early stage and any potential move could hinge on a knee injury Mudge sustained while playing for his current club Tiverton Town.

Vickers said: “There are four or five strikers we are interested in and Jamie’s one of them. He’s got to have a scan on his knee first and if things are okay with that then we’ll talk with him again.

“He’s a natural goal-scorer and he’s played with Phil Walsh at Tiverton but it all depends on negotiations, which are at a very early stage.”

O’Brien and Vickers are also looking to secure new deals for those members of the Dorchester squad who are out of contract.

The duo hope to tie up any loose ends over the next week.

The Magpies have three friendlies arranged for pre-season already. They travel to Bashley on July 14, host Eastbourne Borough on July 18, with Yeovil Town set to visit the Jewson Stadium on July 25.
