DEV'S MAGPIES 3 - 1 JASON'S MAGPIES
Dorchester Town supporters raised more than £700
for their beloved club in a charity football match at the Jewson
Stadium.
Dev Ward’s Magpies took on Jason Aplin’s Magpies in
an entertaining encounter, which ended with the former winning
the inaugural Bryan Clark Memorial Trophy courtesy of a 3-1 victory.
Ward’s side started the brigther of the two and took the
lead midway through the first half when Chris Gould fired home
from the edge of the penalty area past opposition keeper Robbie
Graham.
As the half progressed Ward’s team lost their shape and
let Aplin’s charges come back into the match.
With chances at both ends, it was indeed Aplin’s men that
struck the next blow when a hopeful shot caused problems for Dan
Floyd in Ward’s goal and the keeper spilled the ball after
an awkward bounce, letting Cameron Marett in to level the scores.
With proceedings back on level terms, Aplin’s team were
looking the better of the two going in at the break, but the half-time
interval ended up benefiting Ward’s side instead.
At the resumption of play, Gould was at the centre of the action
again and his flick-on put David Foxwell through on goal, and he
skilfully beat the defence before neatly finishing past Graham
to make it 2-1.
In response, Callum Coleman was forced to try and push forward
for Aplin’s team.
The defender’s long throws and accurate balls forward caused
problems for Ward’s team, however Rob and Jamie Hodder, Phil
Edwards and Nigel Hayes worked well to keep the lead intact.
And the game was put beyond doubt with 20 minutes to go when Gould
was played through and he calmly slotted home.
Despite chances for Tom Clark and Tom Massey, Aplin’s team
were unable to reduce the deficit, seeing Ward’s band of
merry men presented with the Bryan Clark Memorial Trophy.
The man of the match award went to the influential Chris Gould,
who was perhaps the only player to have caught the eye of the on-looking
Dorchester first-team boss Roy O’Brien and his right-hand
man Ashley Vickers.
