Helping hand from Hearn

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

Dorchester Town chairman Shaun Hearn has offered a helping hand to the Terras in their fight for survival.

The Magpies’ majority shareholder has revealed he would let Weymouth utilise the Jewson Stadium facilities free of charge for the remainder of the season.

The cash-strapped Terras are set to make an announcement on their future tomorrow, with the threat of entering administration believed to be extremely likely.

Hearn is keen to see his local rivals survive. He said: “I have offered them the chance to play at our stadium for nothing for the rest of the season.

“I would never want to see the two clubs merge but I see no reason why we can’t share the facilities if it helps their financial position.

“It’s not something I would want to do in the long-term but I’m happy for it to happen in the short-term.”

Weymouth director Paul Cocks though, is confident the Terras will continue to play at the Wessex Stadium.

He said: “It’s nice of Shaun to make that offer and it is a genuine one, but I can’t see it happening. Even if the club was to go into administration I doubt we would lose the stadium.”
