Gleeson handed one-month ban

Jamie Gleeson will be out of action for the whole of September after
an “altercation” in a midweek five-a-side league resulted
in a blanket four-week ban.
The 25-year-old was hoping to simply maintain his fitness levels
by playing in the small-sided competition at Bournemouth, but he
has now landed himself in hot water, with his weekly wages also
being withdrawn for the duration of his sentence.
The midfielder’s suspension began yesterday, forcing him
to miss Dorchester’s 2-2 draw at Hampton & Richmond,
and ends the day after the second qualifying round of the FA Cup
on September 25.
Boss Ashley Vickers insists Gleeson, whose brother Lee is serving
a two-month ban for his part in the incident, will learn his lesson.
He said: “He’s got a one-month suspension for an altercation.
It’s a blow and he realises he shouldn’t have been
doing it.
“Some part-time players do play in these five-a-side leagues
to keep themselves ticking over. However, they are then targeted
by other players who try to get a reaction out of them.
“It’s good that he wants to keep his fitness levels
up but he would be better off going to the gym.
“He knows I’m disappointed and he knows the chairman
Shaun Hearn is as well.
“He’s agreed not to receive any wages during the suspension
and it’s something he will learn from as it gives someone
else an opportunity. He won’t do it again.”
Meanwhile, Vickers will today continue his pursuit of an unnamed
Blue Square Bet Premier striker, who he hopes to bring in on loan.
The county town chief added: “Hopefully a deal will materialise
soon.”
* Jake Smeeton’s intended loan move to Gillingham Town fell
through last week, prompting a similar switch to Poole Town instead.
The defender celebrated his move by helping the Dolphins to a
3-0 win over Bishop Sutton in the preliminary round of the FA Cup.
