Vickers keeps Magpies grounded

Ashley Vickers is not taking Dorchester's impressive run for granted as he believes the Magpies remain "a work in progress".

The caretaker-boss welcomes Bromley to the Jewson Stadium tomorrow (3pm) hoping to lead his county town side to a third straight win in Blue Square South - thus stretching their unbeaten run to five games.

The Lilywhites have lost their last two but sit just four points adrift of second-placed Woking.

Looking ahead to tomorrow's encounter, which will be Vickers' 10th league game in charge, the Magpies' chief said: "We're looking forward to it, the boys are buoyant and the spirit in the camp is good - hopefully that has spread to the terraces as well.

"We won't go into the game with any trepidation because if we apply ourselves and perform to the best of our abilities we're a match for anyone in this league.

"We won't take anything for granted though, as we're still a work in progress and the team is still gelling.

"We have to realise the things that helped us win against Thurrock on Tuesday, such as our work-rate, are a necessity and must be done week in, week out."

A two-month period of inconsistency has kept Bromley out of the top five but they do possess one of the division's top marskmen in Warren McBean.

Vickers added: "Bromley are very much hot and cold but they do have a dangerous striker in Warren McBean. We'll take the game to them and have a good go.

"The lads gave everything on Tuesday night and we don't want to fall into old habits again, so we need to try and keep the momentum going."

Midfielder Jamie Gleeson, who last action saw action on December 5, was set to resume training last night, as was keeper Regan Coward.

However, Vickers doubts the latter will be fit enough to feature tomorrow.

Meanwhile, in terms of personnel, Vickers believes he has the right tools at his disposal and played down the possibility of adding to his squad in the near future.

He said: "We are speaking to people but we're happy as we are and I would like to think that we've got the right pegs in the right holes."
