Magpies devastated

Dorchester Town players were left “devastated” last night
after seeing their unbeaten run brought to an end at high-flying
Chelmsford City.
The Magpies, who entered the Blue Square South fixture without
a defeat in their last five outings, were beaten for the first
time since New Year’s Day as John Martin’s wonder strike
just before the hour secured all three points for the Clarets.
And caretaker-manager Ashley Vickers, who was without skipper
Kevin Hill and striker Ryan Moss due to flu, was disappointed to
see his men return home without reward.
He said: “It’s disappointing because we deserved at
least a point. We dominated much of the second half and on another
day we might have got at least a point. Even if we had got a point
I probably still would have been disappointed.
“As it is I’m devastated and so are the boys. Hopefully
though we’ll use this to take another step forward.
“I’m always learning things about these players and
they never fail to surprise me with their heart and endeavour.”
Of the winning goal, Vickers added: “It was a decent goal
but knowing Regan Coward like I do he’ll feel that on another
day he would have saved it. He’s a talented keeper though
and will save us far more points over the course of the season – the
same goes for Simon Evans.”
The Magpies’ chief, who started with a five-man midfield
at Melbourne Park, also felt the hosts were lucky to finish the
game with 11 men.
He said: “There was a tackle by Steve Clark on Neil Martin
that I felt was two-footed and warranted a red card but the referee
chose not to send him off. Perhaps on another day that rub of the
green will go our way.
“I’m proud of the lads though, the boys at the back
were superb and we’ve shown we’re a match for anyone
in this division.”
As well as missing the presence of Hill and Moss, winger Nick
Crittenden was confined to the bench after tweaking his ankle in
Saturday’s goalless draw with Bromley.
Vickers added: “We had players missing again but the lads
who came in did well and I would still take this group of players
over any other in the division.”
Meanwhile, Dorchester have made a new signing off the pitch.
Jonathan Dickinson, who was appointed as finance manager of the
club six weeks ago, has been co-opted on to the board of directors
with immediate effect.
The Magpies will hold a Fans’ Forum at the Jewson Stadium
on Thursday (6.30pm) with chairman Shaun Hearn and caretaker-boss
Ashley Vickers set to be in attendance.
