Dorchester making progress with Eddie - Hearn

Dorchester Town chairman Shaun Hearn believes the club is making “progress” in the ongoing legal battle with former owner Eddie Mitchell.
The legal issues with the AFC Bournemouth chairman were first made public in mid-December.
And the dispute was said to have delayed the appointment of a new permanent boss at the Jewson Stadium.
Although unable to delve into the details of the issues at hand, Hearn said at last night’s Fans’ Forum: “Things are progressing but for legal reasons I can’t say too much.
“It’s still ongoing but hopefully things will move on over the next week or so. I’d love nothing more than to have a coffee with Eddie and thrash it all out but there is a process and a way of going about things.
“Hopefully there’ll be light at the end of the tunnel sooner rather than later.
“There’s a lot more involved in it than I anticipated and I was perhaps a bit naïve but we’ve come this far and it’s about getting over the final hurdle.
“We just want to draw a line under the situation. We’re already thinking about next season and I believe this group of players can do a job for the next two years or more.”
Hearn has been impressed with the Magpies’ form of late and is already eyeing a potential play-off berth in next season’s Blue Square South.
He added: “We’re all happy with the progress that has been made on the pitch. In a year’s time we are planning to be in the top six.
“The squad we are putting together is more than capable of achieving that. There will be a lot of teams cutting their budgets so it could be a tight league. I would be disappointed if we are not in or around the play-offs.
“The club though will live within its means because we as directors haven’t got a big pot of money.”
Former Real Zaragoza assistant Gorka Etxeberria was thought to be the favourite to land the permanent manager’s role but should the Magpies’ recent performances continue, it could be Ashley Vickers who leads the county town side into battle next term.
Hearn said: “I think both Ash and Phil Simkin will be involved with the first team next season. They work well together and there’s no need to change that.
“I’ve not spoken to Gorka for a little while so I do need to speak to him. He’s a top man and he’s football through and through – he’d be a great asset to any football club.
“But the situation has got to be right for everybody. As a board we’re not in a position to make promises that we can’t keep.
“Ash knows the situation of the club, he’s not done himself any harm and he’s a pleasure to have at the football club.
“The manager needs to know the level of football we are playing at and it’s safe to say Ash does.”
Hearn also revealed at last night’s meeting that the club is planning to write to the Dorset Premier League with a view to entering a reserve team in next season’s competition.
