'Majority' of Magpies squad to receive new contracts

Dorset Echoby Ky Capel

Dorchester Town are already looking ahead to next season – offering new deals to four players.

Top scorer Matt Groves, midfielder James Coutts and defenders Kyle Critchell and Nathan Walker have all been rewarded for their efforts.

And manager Ashley Vickers expects to hand further contracts to the majority of the current squad.

He said: “The majority of the lads are going to be offered new deals in the next month. It’s then up to them to come back to us on the terms we have offered.

“The deals that have been offered are bonus related as we want to try and keep the wages down and reduce our out-goings, like all clubs are doing in the current climate.

“Nathan has been a revelation since joining while James, Kyle and Matt are proven players. James and Kyle have both brought their talent and attributes to the club and they are players we want to keep on board – as are most of the lads.”

The Magpies travel to Welling United this afternoon (3pm) looking to bounce back from Monday’s 1-0 loss at second-placed Chelms-ford City.

Ryan Moss, Kevin Hill and Nick Crittenden could return to the fold while striker Warren Byerley, who has been in red-hot form for Bridport, may be recalled from St Mary’s Field.

Vickers added: “Warren has scored three goals in three games for Bridport and Trevor Senior’s been filling me in on how well he’s done. We haven’t been scoring a great amount of goals of late so Warren could be in the squad at Welling.”
