Hearn has no interest in any ground-share

Dorchester Town chairman Shaun Hearn would not entertain the idea
of a ground-share with rivals Weymouth, should the opportunity
ever arise.
The Magpies’ majority shareholder stretched out a helping
hand to the Terras last October when the Wessex Stadium-based outfit
were on the verge of entering administration.
Hearn offered Weymouth the chance to utilise the Jewson Stadium
facilities free of charge until the end of the current season.
However, Dorchester’s near neighbours eventually avoided
administration and Hearn is no longer interested in the thought
of a future ground-share.
He said: “It’s not something I’m particularly
interested in now.
“There was a time when I thought there might be something
in it but I’m happy with the way things are.”
Football Association rules state that short-term ground-sharing
agreements will only be accepted if a club is moving to a new stadium
or their existing home is being re-built, refurbished or deemed
unusable due to fire, flood or other causes.
The club must then provide the Football Conference Board with
confirmation that any new work proposed has full planning permission,
that construction contracts with start and finish dates have been
awarded – subject to ground-sharing approval – and
that the funding is in place.
Meanwhile, manager Ashley Vickers believes the county town club
is in a much more stable position with Hearn at the helm.
He said: “There used to be an air of uncertainty but the
club feels like it’s on a more stable footing now.”
Vickers also revealed he is unsure whether he will hang up his
boots in the near future.
The 37-year-old added: “It’s difficult to do the management
side of things and play because you have to get the lads prepared
as well as yourself.
“The lads have been playing so well which is why I have
taken myself out of the equation. I still love playing but we will
see what happens.”
