Dorchester boss eyes 40th

Dorchester Town boss Ashley Vickers is tomorrow hoping to see his
side move a step closer to the magic 40-point mark.
The Magpies play host to Bishop’s Stortford (3pm) knowing
that victory at the Jewson Stadium could see them move above their
opponents and open up a 12-point gap between themselves and the
Blue Square South drop-zone.
A win on home soil would put Dorchester on 35 points – seven
short of last season’s total and one more than the previous
year’s tally – with 11 games still to play.
However, Vickers is wary of tomorrow’s visitors. He said: “We
go into it full of confidence after getting back on track last
weekend.
“We matched a decent Welling side who are in good form.
“Stortford are indifferent at times but they are dangerous
and we know their threats. We need to try and match them and then
look to play and get our players on the ball.
“Forty points is the mark we are aiming for right now and
we’re just three wins away from breaking that barrier – it
would be fantastic if we could get one of those victories tomorrow.
“Stortford are above us in the table and they are a decent
outfit, so we need to try and handle their threats.”
Dorchester, who have suffered just one defeat in their last seven
outings, are set to welcome back striker Ryan Moss and winger Nick
Crittenden for tomorrow’s clash.
Moss missed the last three games through illness while an ankle
injury had kept Crittenden sidelined for almost a fortnight.
Vickers added: “Mossy is itching to play again and we’ve
got everyone fit which is great.”
The Magpies, and Vickers in particular, experienced a nightmare
afternoon when the two sides last met in September.
Vickers was sent off after an altercation with team-mate Mark
Jermyn and Dorchester went down to a 2-0 defeat.
The county town chief said: “We left the incident behind
us pretty much after the game – it was sorted out there and
then.
“Jem has been, and still is, a fantastic servant to Dorchester
and we are the best of friends. We paid our dues and moved on from
it. It would be great to show Stortford that we are a different
side now.”
